

“I Was Young but I Recall Singing Songs Was Mother’s Joy” Laura Louise Carr, the oldest of four children was born July 7, 1941, in Mer Rouge, Louisiana, to Gertrude Wright and Herman Carr. “It’s Another Day’s Journey” Laura attended Union High School in Mer Rouge, Louisiana and Espanola’s Beauty College in Houston, Texas. “I Just Can’t Afford to Let My Savior Down” Laura accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and united with Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Mer Rouge, Louisiana. After moving to Houston, she united with Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in 1962, under the leadership of the founder, the late Reverend J.M. Mitchell. During this time, she served as Deaconess, Sunday School Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Mission President, President of the Choir, Youth Matron and President of the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church Mass Choir under the leadership of the founder, Sister Delois Randall. Laura supported every program the church presented. She served her Savior faithfully through her church and shared the love of Jesus to anyone who would listen. “Serving the Lord Will Pay Off” Laura worked as a Texas Cosmetologist for 47 years. She retired from Eddie “May the Work I’ve Done Speak for Me” After 75 years of life, on April 27, 2017 at 2:08 AM with family at her side Laura transitioned from earth to heaven. She is preceded in death by her parents Gertrude and Herman Carr, her husband John Cedell Cooks, her sister Billie Marie Carr and her brother Herman Carr. “Precious Memories” Laura’s precious memories are cherished and honored by her children: Pamela Farris (Sherwood) of Houston, Lisa Fisher (Anthony) of Killeen, TX, Aaron Bruce Hutchinson of Houston, Maria Hutchinson-Murillo (Michael) of Houston, Sonya Kinney (Tyrone) of Houston, Shan Eason (Willie) of Houston, her brother George Nimmer (Evelyn) of Houston, her nieces Wanda Henderson (Bryon) and Evette Williams (Robert) of Houston, her God-son Darius Dillard and daughter Margaret Alexander and family. Sixteen (16) Grandchildren and twenty-one (21) Great Grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends.
