

Leonard A. Mahaffey, 91, passed away, Wednesday, March 30, 2016, peacefully at home. Leonard was born Monday, August 11, 1924 in Houston, Texas. He spent most of this summer times at the farm in Tomball with Momma Jesse and his cousin Don. In 1942, he graduated from John H. Reagan High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard where he studied in Hawaii. After returning from the service, he attended and graduated from the University of Houston. Following graduation, he worked for Gulf Oil until his retirement. During retirement, his entrepreneurial spirit got him involved with several businesses. Leonard also had a strong passion serving his church. He would arrive at St. Mark’s every Sunday at 8:00 am, makes sure that everything is set up properly for morning worship, and attends both services. He then stays until everyone has left so that he can turn out the lights and lock up the church.
Leonard served as Communion Steward for approximately thirty years. In this capacity he prepares the Communion elements before every first Sunday with the help of Pat and Maggie Higgins, he also makes arrangements for others to help serve communion, then disposes of the elements and cleans up the serving trays after every communion service. It is rumored that he has missed one Communion Sunday in the last thirty years. Leonard is survived by his brother, Ray Mahaffey, nieces; Betty Ladusau and her husband Tim, Patti Chamadias and her husband Richard, great nieces; Carrie Ring and her husband Creighton, Jennifer Lopez, and Ashley Daniels, great nephews; Jeff Ladusau and his wife Cristen and Michael Chamadias, Great-great nieces; Jeyci Lopez, Jesyca Lopez, Jadyn Lopez, Lauren Ring, Leah Ring and Julia Ring, great-great nephews; Luke Ladusau and Matthew Ladusau and cousins Don Robinson and his wife Marie and Nadine Cochran.
