

Lionel Joseph Savalier, born December 20, 1926 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, passed away April 28, 2012 in Houston, Texas. Mr. Savalier is survived by his loving wife, Katherine G. Russell and her children, Jeannie Kalin, Kathy Morin, and Brian Cassin; his children, Dorothy Drisdelle, Dennis Savalier, and Doris Savalier Stanton and fiance, Roger Johnson, all of Gardner, Massachusetts, Donna Savalier Giaquinto and husband, Stephen of Leister, Massachusetts, and Donald Savalier and Dean Savalier and wife, Cindy, all residing in California; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Lionel enlisted in the U. S. Navy at the age of 17, and served his country proudly in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, serving in NTS Sampson in New York, and aboard the USS LST 703 and the USS LST 762. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Area – 3 Stars, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon - 2 Stars. He became a security guard in civilian life, and was known for being very kind.
A memorial gathering for friends and family to celebrate Mr. Savalier’s life will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Heights Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the National Cemetery in Winchendon, Massachusetts at a later date.
