The Lord is my shepherd and I shall not want...Psalms 23:1Our mother, Malinda Green Hatter, was the baby girl of her parents Frank and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Hill, born on March 3, 1928 in Center, Texas. She had four siblings: Curtis "Pete," Mae Lizzie "Mary," Lillian and Eva Jo. Her mother passed away three weeks after her birth, so she and Eva Jo were raised by their grandmother, Hannah Williams Hill, who nicknamed her "Honey." She attended and graduated from East Hampton Shelbyville Public School.Raised in the Baptist faith, she was baptized in East Hampton by Rev. Clifford Daniel, Sr. She married J. B. "Johnny" Green in 1946 and they had five beautiful girls: Anita Grace, Linda Joyce, Evelyn, Doris and Sandra; and one handsome son, Doug, who died at 13 months old. They moved their family to Houston where she displayed her charitable spirit by helping neighbors in need. She went to work in domestic and healthcare services for the elderly. Malinda was widowed in 1970, and in 1974 she married Rev. John Hatter who preceded her in death in 1992.Through the faithful influence of her grandmother, she loved the Lord and enjoyed attending and doing her part in the church. Despite not always being in the best of health, she attended Sunday School, Sunday worship, mission and weekly Bible study. Her first church fellowship in Houston was with St. mark M.B.C. Later fellowships included Mt. Pillar M.B.C., Blessed Hope M.B.C. and Bella Vista M.B.C. She was a dedicated servant, with roles including Sunday School teacher, usher president, mission president, ministers and deacons wives, mission and prayer warriors--to name a few. One of Madea's favorite pastimes was reading her daily scriptures, meditating, fasting and praying. And if you had a problem, she would say, "Pray about it."She lovingly wore the hat of mother, grandmother to 7, and great grandmother to 11. She always encouraged her family to love the Lord and hold to His unchanging hand. To relax, she watched westerns, like Bonanza and Gunsmoke, and get her daily dose of Wheel of Fortune. She enjoyed sitting on the porch to watch her great-grandchildren play. Granny, as she was affectionately called, liked talking to friends and family on the phone. Many people were influenced by her kindness and lovingly referred to her as "Madea."She is preceded into eternal rest by parents, husbands, son, brother, two sisters, one grandson and two close friends. Her memory is being cherished by her daughters; Anita Grace, Linda Joyce, Evelyn, Doris and Sandra, grandchildren: Corey (Donchelle), Tyrone (Adrienne), Domecia, Kevin, Quiandra (David), Joshua (Glenecia); great-grandchildren: Tristian, Kyndle, Christopher, Chrishelle, Aallyiah, Ajianna, Madeline, Madison, David III, Collin and Daniel; her sister Eva Jo (Sandy0 DeWalt; great-nieces and nphews: Rita Ann, Renea, Sandy Jr., Clarence, Lemmie Jr., Jesse, and their children in the faith at her many church homes. Our family would like to extend love and appreciation to her pastors, and Christian sons, daughters, brothers and sisters.
