Margarito (Bill) Guillermo Garza, 84, of Houston, Texas, passed away on the morning of Saturday, February 12, 2022. Bill was born to Margarito DeAnda Garza and Paula Aguilar Garza, February 10, 1938, in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Saint Thomas High School in 1955 and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. Bill was stationed in Munich, Germany where he met lifelong friends and created memories which he forever cherished. He loved to reminisce about his Army antics and always left everyone in tears from laughing at his hilarious stories.
He married the love of his life, Irene Chapa Garza in 1962. Together, they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on March 31st. Originally from the Old Sixth Ward Historic District, they moved to the East End in Houston, Texas where they raised five children.
Bill spent his entire career as an Air Tool Sales Consultant. He had a relentless work ethic, seldomly taking any sick leave or a full week of vacation. His sole desire was to enjoy life and work until the very end. His family finds great comfort in knowing that Bill’s wishes were fulfilled. He was an avid gambler and loved to play the slot machines but was hilariously known as “Mr. Bad Luck.” Bill’s idea of relaxing was to enjoy a glass of wine and sharing laughs and good times with his friends and family.
From the mid-seventies to the early nineties, Bill was actively involved in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Annual Fall Festival and was known as the Bingo man with his unique and amusing style of calling out the numbers. He also regularly hosted the Sunday morning church kitchen drawing crowds for his delicious tacos and menudo.
To know Bill was to love Bill. Once you had the honor of meeting him, you could always count on being greeted with his trademark, “How do you feel??!!!” This was his calling card, and you could always tell he was genuinely interested in knowing how you were doing. He was a no-holds barred man who told it like it was and lived life on his own terms. Bill was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
The eldest son of fourteen children, Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Margarito DeAnda Garza and Paula Aguilar Garza, and sisters, Delfina Ruiz and Olga Cano.
Bill is survived by his wife, Irene and children, Jesse Allen Garza (Lisa Garza), Margaret Ann Garza (Irene Hernandez Garza), Stephen Adrian Garza (Jeanette Garza), Craig Anthony Garza (Terry Garza), and Ellie Casanova Velasquez (Edward Velasquez). He also leaves to cherish his memory eleven brothers and sisters, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.
