January 11, 1965 - September 12, 2019
Mark Raymond Atteberry, 54, passed away on September 12, 2019, in Houston, Texas, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Waco, he was a lifelong resident of Texas, except for ten years spent in California during his youth.
Mark was a man of great conviction who did things his own way until the very end. Caring, kind, artistic, intelligent and loyal are just a few of the words that attempt to capture his essence. Those who knew him know that after learning of his cancer diagnosis, Mark dedicated his remaining weeks to phone calls and visits with family and friends to express his deep love for each one.
A gifted musician, Mark wrote dozens of songs and performed them as he played his guitars. In addition, he was a brilliant artist and writer and published a book of his poetry, Bipolar Blues. Mark was also an avid reader who had a lifelong thirst for knowledge.
Being an animal lover, Mark was an excellent horseman when younger, and rescued many cats and dogs over the years. He also did volunteer work for Covenant House, helping homeless youth, a cause he was passionate about.
Mark was a member of the LeonLifers and spent many hours on the road with them traveling to Leon Russell concerts. He leaves behind countless LeonLifer friends.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Milton Atteberry, dad, Marshall Farley, and an infant brother and sister. He is survived by his life partner, Nephi Ferguson of Houston, mother Edith Farley of Boerne, sister Melissa Farley Ross (Steve Ross) of Bulverde, brothers Robert Atteberry (Sandy Atteberry) of Elkmont, Alabama, Tim Farley (Tara Thomas-Farley) of The Woodlands, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the kind and compassionate staff and volunteers at Houston Hospice for caring for Mark during his final days.
