Mary Olga Almanza

16 August , 192913 April , 2019

Mary Olga Almanza was born in Eagle Pass, TX on August 16, 1929 and peacefully passed in her sleep after a lengthy illness on April 13, 2019. She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Santos Almanza, newborn son James, her parents, Esteban and Cecilia Rangel, and her sister Lily Fernandez. When she was young, her family moved to San Antonio, TX. She enjoyed spending time with her sisters Lily and Janie. Mom was very smart and studious. She grew up in San Antonio, Texas, attended Lanier High School. She studied nursing and hoped to attend college but her dad became ill and she had to work to help their family financially. One of her first jobs was an elevator operator at a downtown San Antonio hotel. She married the love of her life, Santos on July 2, 1950. Our parents bravely left their home base of San Antonio when they were presented with a better future in Houston, where they resided since 1963. They moved with five children and later had their 6th in Houston. Mom was a dedicated mother first and foremost; she treasured her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She embraced every moment with us. She raised her children Catholic and made sure we were all educated in the faith. Mom enjoyed spending time with her family. Mom was an accomplished homemaker and our family financial advisor (raising six kids she had this down to a fine tune). Mary is survived by her six children, Richard (Linda), Sylvia (Edward), Roger (Cindy), Bernice (Jerry), Elsa (Hector) and Ronnie (Veronica), 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and sister, Janie Mireles, along with many nieces and nephews.

With a very sad and broken heart, I lost my mother, the matriarch of our Almanza family. She was a wife to our late father, a mother, a grandmother and a great grandmother. Mom was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with us. She especially loved her role as a grandmother and great grandmother. She had a vivacious personality and always made people laugh.

On April 13,th, mom closed her eyes, quieted her pain and ascended to a beautiful place. Mom was a very strong and beautiful lady. I have so many fond memories of my mom. She loved to watch her novellas, The Price is Right and best of all she was a huge fan of Nintendo. She loved playing Nintendo with her grandchildren. Her favorite place to visit was Las Vegas. On a yearly basis, my husband and I took both my parents to Las Vegas. She would get so excited in those casinos, she didn’t have to win but, when she did, she was smiling from ear to ear.
She was a happy person and always smiling. 😍
Mom was the best!🌹
I am missing you so much mom!🌹
I love you ❤️❤️❤️
You can now rest with dad! Tell dad we miss him. ❤️

Mom words cannot express how much I love you. Thank you for being such an amazing mother and grandmother to my children "your babies " how you so fondly referred to Chris, Lauren & Michael ❤❤❤ (even as adults). We had so much FUN on the Louisiana casino trips with your comadre Lupita, Hector, Dad and me. You leave us with so many wonderful memories to cherish for years to come; the parties, holidays, vacations and "road trips"!! I'll miss talking to you and visiting you. It was my honor to care for you (and dad). Rest in heavenly peace my beautiful mother and give my daddy a tight hug and kiss from his baby girl. All my love always momma, love your daughter, Elsa
