

Mary Gretchel “Gret” Morgan McKenzie passed away on December 27, 2015 at the age of 71. Gret is preceded in death by her daughter Charlotte Anne McKenzie and parents Geneva Bernard and William Earl Morgan. She is survived by her children Robert Colin McKenzie, Mark Jonathan McKenzie and Scarlett Lace McKenzie, her sister Priscilla “Jo” Morgan Goudeau and her family, and many loving relatives and friends. Gret was in the antique business in Houston since the 1970s, and started Gen’s Antiques in the Heights with Greg Nolte 12 years ago. Gret was born December 12, 1944 in Alexandria, Louisiana and graduated from Bolton High School. She attended college at St. Mary’s Dominican in New Orleans, Sacred Heart Dominican College in Houston, and the University of Houston. She raised three children in Hunter’s Creek and was active in the PTA. For many years, she performed volunteer work for the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Houston, Texas. Throughout her life, Gret was an entrepreneur. In high school, she owned a dance studio with her sister Jo. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, she owned and operated a Cajun restaurant called Gator’s. She enjoyed antiquing, watching sports, traveling, and caring for her beloved dogs Gen and Mary. Funeral Mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in the Heights, Houston, Texas on Thursday, January 7, at 10am. Interment will follow the next week at Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Pineville, Louisiana. A memorial gathering followed by a Rosary reading will occur on Wednesday, January 6 from 6pm to 8pm at Dignity Heights Funeral Home on 1317 Heights Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either your local animal charity, or a foundation that helps the homeless such as the St. Vincent DePaul Society or the Salvation Army, or any charity of your choice.
