

Born in Houston, Texas on June 5, 1924, Miriam went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2025 in Flint, Texas. She grew up in Houston and pursued higher education at Baylor University, Texas Christian University, University of Corpus Christi and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, earning a bachelor’s degree from TCU and a Master of Education from Texas A&M-CC. She was a registered Medical Technologist and former member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Her greatest career achievements were in the field of education. For 15 years, Miriam was an elementary school teacher, then becoming Assistant Principal at Windsor Park Elementary school, a position she thrived in for 10 years before her retirement from CCISD in 1990. She conducted many in-service teachers' training in surrounding districts and led seminars at the state level. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma (past-president) and Phi Delta Kappa and various local teacher organizations.
Active in church all her life, Miriam’s service began at Second Baptist Church, Houston, serving many years as a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church, Corpus Christi. She authored the children’s book "Look Who's Talking" as well as several short stories published in Guideposts Magazine. Some of her favorite pastimes were writing poetry and prose, playing piano, sewing, quilting, playing games and working crossword puzzles. Granny's creativity and unique sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, J. Howard and Gertrude Gosney Clark, her husband of almost 58 years, Walter Edward Harrison, her sister and brother-in-law, Clemence and John Stanley and her son-in -law Bruce Drummond. She is survived by her children: Wayne Harrison (Marion Loveless), Shannon McBurney, Keith Harrison (Lisa), and Karen Drummond.
She was affectionately known as "Granny" to her seven grandchildren: Shannon Harrison, Layne Harrison (Rachel), Sarah Loveless (Wayne Swink), Kelli Drummond Dodge (Greg), Erin Drummond Parks (Bryan), Leigh Harrison and Holly Harrison Patin (Josh). She was "Great Granny" to her nine great grandchildren: Nathaniel Ramirez, Hunter Dodge, Grace Harrison, Logan Parks, Hayden Dodge, Vaun Harrison, Evelyn Swink-Loveless, Mason Parks and Parker Patin. Miriam is also survived by her nephew, Jack Stanley, niece and nephew-in-law, Gherlaine and Bob Hofmann, nephew, Lee Howard Stanley and nephew, Dennis Stanley, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Miriam will be remembered most for her unwavering love of God, her Christ-like example, her servant's heart and living the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Her indelible imprint on all of our lives will forever live in our hearts. "For we are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8)
Miriam was specific in her request that in lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Samaritan’s Purse, or Christians United for Israel.
A graveside service for Miriam will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St, Houston, TX 77023. Following the graveside service will be a reception from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.
