Nancy Marie Gresham, 79, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully in the presence of family on Sunday afternoon, August 26, 2018, after a lengthy illness. Nancy was born in Houston on July 1, 1939.
She was preceded in death by her parents W. Mouzon and Idele Glenn; infant sister Karen Ann Glenn; maternal grandparents Matt and Mary Spolyar; paternal grandparents Marion and Bessie Glenn; and her beloved canine companion Tufty.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 57 years John K. Gresham; her sons Glenn and Keith and their spouses; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; her sister Sally Hunter; nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends.
Nancy was a 1960 graduate of Sam Houston State University majoring in Elementary Education. Later in life Nancy developed a strong interest in medicine and in 1987 graduated class valedictorian of the Vocational Nursing Program at Wharton County Junior College in Richmond, Texas. She then worked as an LVN in a variety of ob-gyn clinical settings before retiring.
A 38-year breast cancer survivor, Nancy volunteered with American Cancer Society's Reach To Recovery, March of Dimes, and various other charitable groups. Always ready for a road trip or ferryboat ride, Nancy traveled widely with family and friends and especially loved being anywhere near water.
The family expresses deep appreciation to Nancy's team of caregivers during the past several months.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Colonial Chapel of Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Houston Hospice or Homeless & Orphaned Pets Endeavor (HOPE), a Houston-area pet adoption nonprofit.
