A beloved mother, sister and wife; a kind and gentle woman to her Terrace United Methodist and “Voyager” friends; and an affectionate “Mimi” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren; Nedra Evans Foster, 89, joined the Lord in Heaven early Friday morning, July 25, 2014. There, she will be reunited with her brother, Jack Evans, and sister, Marion Wheatley, as well as with her daughters, Rebecca Manry and Lisa Foster.
Born to Eula and Boone Evans of Post, TX – where she will be laid to rest at Terrace Cemetery Saturday, August 2, 2014, at 10AM – she was the third of four children. As a young woman, she enjoyed riding horses on the open range and played the clarinet in the marching band in high school. She attended West Texas State Normal College (now West Texas A&M) in Canyon, TX, where she met the love of her life, Robert Donnell (Don) Foster after having caught his eye in a play she had performed in. They later married in 1945 and lived in Austin, TX, while Don finished his education before moving to Houston where they would begin their family and eventually spend 69 wonderful years together.
Although petite in stature, Nedra’s brimming and adventurous spirit carried her to exotic and home-grown locales alike. Whether it was as one of the first Americans to venture back into Communist China in 1979 with Don, or during her regular girls-only shopping trips to Wimberley with her sisters, she always touched the hearts of those she came across. Yet even during her busier years, she never forgot to show her kin how much she loved them and how proud she was of their accomplishments.
Her family welcome everyone to a 1:00PM funeral service at Terrace United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, to celebrate a life well-lived and well-loved. Visitation was held prior to Wednesday’s service on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, from 5:00 until 8:00PM at Waltrip Funeral Directors where stories and memories were shared with her friends and her family, to include: husband Don, son Michael with his wife Joan, sister Joyce with her husband Gene, and her grandchildren Brandon with his wife Gail, Eric with his wife Sheila, Lindsey with her husband Clifton, and Taylor, in addition to her seven great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Benjamin, William, Ethan, Cara, Evangeline and Anselm.
She will be missed but not forgotten. And to ensure this – in lieu of flowers – remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation American Diabetes Association, or your favorite charitable cause.
