Neil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rollin and Helen Emery, his sisters Katheryn and Josephine, and his brothers Forrest and Richard, infant son Ronald, and grandson Jeremy.
Neil was born January 12, 1934 in Williamsport, PA to loving parents Rollin and Helen Emery. He grew up in the area surrounding Mifflinburgh, PA with seven siblings Warren, Forrest, Richard, Bob, Katheryn, Josephine, and Fae. Neil enlisted in the Air Force in August of 1952 and served until September 1960. Neil achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant, received the Medal of Good Conduct and served a tour of duty in the Korean War. While stationed at Bryan AFB in Bryan, TX, Neil met and married the love of his life, Myrtle, on June 21, 1958. Shortly after leaving the Air Force, Neil and Myrtle moved to Houston, Texas, where they raised their family and lived until the time of his death. He began working at FMC in 1961 where he was a machinist and later lab technician in the R&D lab, testing valves for oil pipelines. He retired in 1993 after 32 years, and enjoyed spending more time with his wife and family. During his retirement he loved to volunteer at the church, work on the car, mow the yard and cheer on his favorite sports teams, especially the Astros. Though Parkinson’s Disease deteriorated his body, Neil never complained, lost his faith in God, his humor, or his love for family and life. We’ll miss your twinkling eyes and pearly smile…. until we meet again. We love you Neil!
Visitation took place on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1515 Hillendahl Houston, Texas from 10:30am to 11:30am. The funeral service began at 11:30am in the sanctuary. Neil was laid to rest at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
A special Thank You to the staff at Vosswood Nursing Center and Treemont Retirement Community for taking great care of Neil for the last 1½ years.
