Patricia was born on September 7, 1940 in Houston, TX to the late Frances Sisul Millard and Joseph Emmor Millard. Patricia attended Brazosport High School where she graduated in 1958.
After high school Patricia moved to Houston to attend Massey Business College. It was in Houston where Pat met the love of her life, Jerry Sanford Maness, and they were married on August 22, 1959. Patricia continued working until she fell pregnant and welcomed their firstborn, Jennifer Anne, in 1971, Samuel Anthony followed in 1972 but sadly did not survive his first few days of life.
In 1974, Jerry and Patricia purchased a home in the newly developed suburb of Kingwood, TX, the birth of Matthew Wade followed in 1977. Patricia was a wonderful and loving mother & wife. She was very artistic and an accomplished seamstress. As she raised her children she was always involved in a creative hobby.
Most notably, in the 1980s when Cabbage Patch kids were all the rage; Patricia and her friends; Mary Ann Cluxton, Barbara Day, and Beverly Greer began sewing soft sculptured dolls of their own called Lovable Huggables and Kuddly Keepsakes. These handmade dolls were highly popular in the Humble/Kingwood area and can still be found in many homes in the Kingwood area today. Patricia also made and sold custom hair bows for area drill and cheerleading teams, as well as local children’s clothing stores. She assisted Jennifer with sewing costumes for the Kingwood High School Drama dept productions between 1985-1989. If there was a fashionable item her kids wanted to wear, Pat could sew it; Laura Ashley dresses for Jennifer and Jams style shorts for Wade. As the kids went off to college in the 1990s, Patricia became an avid collector of Dept. 56 Villages. In 1993 she joined forces with a fellow collector, Jaye McFarland, and they published a Dept. 56 display tips and ideas manual called Display Fever.
As the turn of the century approached Pat was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration, which abruptly ended many of her creative pursuits, but she continued to cook for her family by feel and taste well into her early 80s. Everyone who knew her will remember her as an exceptional cook and BBQer. Her Texas style brisket and ribs were to die for, and often the requested meal of visiting relatives and friends. Pat & Jerry had been married almost 50 years before they became grandparents to Samuel, Bailey, and Patrick, and they spent their last years loving and doting on them.
Patricia was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Frances Millard; infant son, Samuel Anthony Maness; parents, Joseph & Frances Millard; and her husband, Jerry Maness.
Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Jennifer Anne Maness Scott of Kingwood, TX; one son, Matthew Wade Maness and wife Erin Cornelius Maness of Hutto, TX; two grandsons, Samuel Anthony Scott, and Patrick Darby Scott, both of Kingwood, TX; one granddaughter, Bailey Ryan Maness of Hutto, TX; a sister, Betty Jo Millard Roznovsky and brother in law Mike Roznovsky of The Colony, TX, along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
The family would like to express gratitude to the congregation of Holy Comforter Lutheran Church, Connie & Steve Savoy, cousin Donna Meyers, cousin Brenda Quarles, Diana Stinson, Trey Reeves and Tracy Bradley for their outpouring of support to the family as they cared for Patricia.
