Phyllis D. Serra

Our beloved mother Phyllis Serra went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2014 at exactly 3:08am after almost a year of a courageous fight against cancer. She went very peacefully with her five children, husband David, granddaughter Erica, her niece Sylvia, daughters in law Ioana, and Danielle all by her beside at home. Phyllis had a passion for food and cooking and from that passion Fiesta Tacos was born in March 1981. Although her passion and talents as a phenomenal cook made people flock to Fiesta Tacos, it was her love for the Lord that made it unique. Mama, as she would later be called by all who walked through the doors of Fiesta Tacos, would privately be asked by her patrons for prayers. Soon a secret signal would be shared between Mama and her patrons when they wanted prayers and they would meet at the back area of Fiesta Tacos to get their blessings from Mama. Sharing God's word and bringing people to the Lord was Mama's greatest calling. You could call Fiesta Tacos her private ministry. Phyllis was a devoted wife to her husband David of almost 55 years, an amazing mother to her five children who consider her "The love of their lives", an incredible friend to more than can be counted, a wonderful boss adored by her staff, and she touched the lives of almost every person she talked to. She is preceded in death by her parents Ruperto and Francesca Dominguez, and sisters Ofelia Zavala and Maria Garcia. Phyllis is survived by her husband David, children Felicia Serra, Sandra Serra, John Serra and wife Ioana, JoAnna Serra and Sue, Melissa Serra and Danielle, granddaughters Erica Sosa and Olivia Martinez, grandson Justin Galvan and Dillon Cox, great granddaughter Eliza Sosa, Brother Mercedes Dominguez and wife Anita, and many nieces and nephews who loved her like a mother. Visitation services will be held on Tuesday May 20, 2014 at Heights Funeral Home from 5-9pm. Funeral service at Heights Funeral Home will be held Wednesday May 21, 2014 10am followed by burial at Forrest Park Cemetery Lawndale.
