Ray is survived by his wife, Erna Lee of 64 blessed years; daughters Cindy Daily and husband Rick; Rhonda Laumen and husband Jerry; grandchildren, Sarah Daily; Jake Daily and wife Courtney; Brent Laumen and wife Amanda; Ryan Laumen and 1 great granddaughter Clara Laumen. He is also survived by his sister Annie Ruth Arrington. He was preceded in death by his parents Coleman and Ruthie Barrett and sisters, Hazel Newman and Exer Lee Whisenant.
Ray was born September 18, 1932 in Garrison, Texas. He attended Stephen F. Austin University on a basketball scholarship. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He then started his 43 year career in Sales with the Southern Pacific Railroad and retired in 1993. He was a longtime member of the American Legion and Transportation Club of Houston. Ray was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in the Heights for 64 years. Once retired, you could find Ray and Erna Lee at their beloved bay house with their family and friends. Ray was an avid sports fan and football was his favorite; you didn’t bother him on Saturday or Sunday during football season! Ray also liked to fish and hunt on his lease in Fredericksburg.
Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone and will be deeply missed by many.
Memorial donations may be made in Ray’s name to Zion Lutheran Church, 3606 Beauchamp, Houston, Texas 77009 or to your favorite charity. A private family graveside service will be held on Friday and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
