

Harold Royce Mitchell was born to Efford Mitchell and Ellena Daviss on September 9, 1926 in Brazos County and raised in Navasota, Texas. Harold accepted Christ at an early age. He attended George Washington Carver High School, Bible Seminary School and Houston Baptist University. He married Frances L. Jones on July 24, 1945. Harold served in the United States Army for one year and after received an honorable discharge. Harold and Frances then moved to Houston, Texas to the Fifth Ward Area. Later they relocated to Shepherd Gardens (Heights Area) where they stayed for many years while he also coached the Little League Baseball Team. He became a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church then later, joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. Harold started his employment as a tailor in a cleaners for many years. After his days as a tailor he took on other jobs until his employment with Metropolitan Transit Authority in 1977. He worked at METRO for approximately thirty-two years as a Bus Operator where he also assisted in training many other bus operators. He was passionate about his job and enjoyed many of the riders and became friends with several ordinary day to day people he met while driving. He finally retired and left the company in 2006. On August 2, 2014 Rev. Harold Royce Mitchell, Sr was called home. He is preceded in death by his wife Frances L. Mitchell, children, Harold R. Mitchell, Jr., Charles E. Mitchell, Darrell A. Mitchell, Donna L. Mitchell and Kimberly R. Mitchell, his parents Efford and Ellena Mitchell, one sister Odessa Mitchell Lipscomb, and brothers Wright C. Mitchell, Sr. and Oscar D. Mitchell (M.C). He is survived by three sons, Gerald W. Mitchell (Diane) Gregory Mitchell, Christopher D. Mitchell (Bernice), one daughter Anissa D. Mitchell and one grandson that resided with him for many years, Brandon Royce Mitchell, daughter-in-law: Evelyn G. Mitchell. Two sisters: Thelma Tippins (Castro, California) and Mattie Mae Anderson (Dallas, Texas). He is also survived by three grandchildren whom he had a hand in raising , Patrick L. Mitchell (Raymonda), Donnica F. Mitchell along with a host of many other grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
