Ricardo Chávez Rivera

Rico’s early life was shaped between Brownsville, Texas, and Matamoros, Tamaulipas. As a young man, he followed his adventurous spirit, traveling throughout Northern Mexico and eventually reaching California — fulfilling his dream of seeing the world beyond. He later returned to Matamoros to start a family, and eventually made Houston his permanent home, where he lovingly raised his children.

A devoted father who took on the role of both mother and father, Rico made sure his children were always cared for. His strength, quiet wisdom, and deep sense of responsibility left a lasting legacy of love and resilience.

Rico dedicated his life to the craft of brick masonry — a trade he took great pride in. He was a hardworking man who believed in building both homes and futures. Beyond his work, Rico was a loyal Astros fan and never missed a chance to enjoy a game with family. He was grateful to witness the Astros win the Championship twice in his lifetime — a joy he shared proudly with his sons. He also lived out his dream of traveling to Italy and the Grand Canyon, creating cherished memories alongside his children. Las Vegas remained one of his favorite destinations.

He leaves behind his beloved children: Richard, Cynthia, Giselle, Kevin, David, and Aida. Rico’s legacy lives on through his 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Rico also shared many meaningful years with Patricia Sosa, a loving and loyal companion who stood by his side through life’s later chapters. Their bond was filled with care, companionship, and enduring respect. Patricia brought light and stability into his life, and her presence meant a great deal to him and those who loved him.

The Chávez family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the extended Chávez and Rodríguez families, as well as all dear friends who shared their love and support throughout Rico’s life.

A special thanks to his daughter-in-law, Dolores, for her compassion and dedication in helping coordinate funeral arrangements during this tender time.
