

Richard Carl "Big Daddy" Cook, Jr., 67, passed away on February 27, 2025, in Houston, Texas. Born on May 15, 1957, in San Antonio, Texas, Richard lived a life filled with faith, love, and an unwavering commitment to those around him. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Richard graduated from Randolph High School before continuing his education at Southwest Texas State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. During his time at Southwest Texas State, Richard joined the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, where he formed lifelong bonds with his brothers, little sisters, and met the love of his life, DeeDee.
After graduation, Richard began his career with Club Corporation of America, operating country clubs and city clubs in various cities across the United States. He later joined Caminata Management, where he became a partner in the ownership and operations of a portfolio of country clubs in Houston. Richard ultimately served as Chief Operating Officer of ATA Associates, where he was known for his dedication and exceptional work ethic. He lived both his professional and personal life as a servant to others, always ensuring that others were well taken care of before attending to his own needs.
Throughout his life, Richard was a natural leader and a shining light to all who knew him. His deep faith in God guided him in all aspects of life, and he was an active and beloved member of several Christian communities, including Bear Creek United Methodist Church, Bee Creek United Methodist Church, and Austin Ridge Bible Church.
Richard took great joy in activities that brought him closer to family and friends. He loved spending time on Lake Travis, where he created countless cherished memories. His passions included pickleball and golf, and he treasured the camaraderie these activities fostered. A connoisseur of fine wines and tequilas, he enjoyed tasting these with friends and family, and he was known for his expertise in BBQing—creating lasting memories through food, laughter, and togetherness.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Deidre Cook; his daughters, Taylor Cook and her husband Mark Crutchley, Kennedy Adame and her husband Javier, and Jordan Miller and her husband Boomer; and cherished granddaughter, Emery Joan Miller. He was predeceased by his parents, Joan Smith and Richard Cook Sr., and his sister, Debbie Cook.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on March 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Austin Ridge Bible Church, 9300 Bee Cave Road, Austin, Texas, in Building A, Auditorium.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Hearts to Honduras www.hth.org, a charity that was near and dear to Richard’s heart. He had the honor of serving on the board and participating in annual mission trips to serve the people of the Honduras community. Donations can be made at Hearts to Honduras.
Richard’s legacy of faith, love, and leadership will continue to inspire all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
