passed away February 26, 2019. Robert was born February 7, 1972 in Austin, Texas
He is survived by: Dad, Robert (Bobby) Huston, Sr. & wife Marilynn of League City.
Mom, Rebecca (Becky) Fortin & husband Tom of Austin Sister, Carolyn Nicole (Niki) & husband Kasra (Kaz) Fardoost & niece Madison Miller of Scottsdale, Arizona
Wife, Amanda Flanagan Huston and daughter Harper Ray of Houston
And many beloved step siblings, cousins, friends.
His mom Becky, was his first love. She taught him the love of travel, kindness, and humor and Shakespeare. She was a mainstay of support during times of challenge and times of light hearted games of scrabble. And lets not forget the game of “golf” a favorite pastime for both mom and son.
His sister Niki, the first woman in his life that taught him about the definition of “agitator” but taught him more about the definition of “protector” and what a sister is and what a sister means to a brother.
When his niece Madison came along, Robert quickly learned about true pure love. Madison could do no wrong and was the poster board of perfection. Little did he know that as a teenager she be the one that would offer the “perfect” name for his own true love, daughter Harper Ray.
His dad Bobby, taught him the love of sports, and sportsmanship. How to compete and be a gracious winner. The true love of baseball and encouraged him in all those efforts. Taught him the value of humor and respect. Bobby was a friend in all ways that friend is supposed to be. Bobby never faltered in his love and support of his son.
His step dad Tom helped to guide him in ways of respect and responsibility. Tom taught him about quiet strength. The kind that only comes from deep respect of self and others.
His step mom Marilynn taught him the value of kindness and encouraged him in the steadfast love of the Lord.
These are only some of the examples of how important family was to Robert.
Robert was an avid history buff and could and would spend hours talking about details of the civil war, & early American history. His knowledge and interest in all things historical was truly savant. He earned his undergraduate degree in History from the University of Texas, and yes his blood was “burnt orange.” He always appreciated that John 8:32 was displayed prominently on the UT Tower as a good reminder for all. Robert was also a member of the Silver Spurs at UT ......an organization that took care of BEVO and provided him with some of his more “memorable” college life experiences. Robert went on to earn his MBA from the Jones School of Business at Rice University, a feat of which he was very proud. Rice would also provide “date night activities” for he and Amanda to attend Rice baseball games and of course enjoy (another passion) “ballpark hotdogs.”
Baseball was his passion followed by college football as a close second. He would begin preparing for the football season in July when the college magazines and rankings would hit the “news stand.” Golf was also a major source of entertainment for him. Robert had the opportunity to live in Korea. While he lived in Korea he played on a Little League baseball team that won the Little League World Series.
We know his passion for sports but another passion was any and all documentaries by Ken Burns. His favorite movie was the series North vs South.
Several years ago (10 years in October) Robert considered himself blessed when he met his future wife Amanda. She very quickly became his best friend, confidant as well as the love of his life.
Amanda and Robert married in June of 2015. The June date was chosen as to not interfere with college football in the fall. They set up a home in the Heights here in Houston and settled in to married life.
All other passions faded 26 months ago when perfection arrived, Harper Ray. This precious baby girl was indeed the light of his life. Reading to her was now his new “Passion.” The games of chase, hide and seek, swimming in the pool, Halloween trick or treat are just a few of the pleasures he enjoyed with his baby girl. He was looking forward to sharing his love of history, baseball, and college football. The past two years you could find Harper dressed in burnt orange and sitting in Robert’s lap on college football opening game day. He would explain, very carefully, the plays of the game, the “bad”calls. He would help her hold her chubby little fingers for the UT sign and teach her to say “hook’em horns.”
Harper will know her Daddy. The stories of her Dad will live on. His love for her will continue to surround her. She has her very own personal guardian angel that will guide and protect her.
Because Robert was taught about the Lord, compassion, respect, friendship, fun, and family these are also the things that Harper will be taught. As those of us here will remember the most about Robert, and because of Harper’s age....We would like to encourage each of you to write a story or something that stood out to you about Robert. We would like to put these things together in a book for Harper. It is up to all of us to teach Harper about her “daddy.”
