Robert V. Velasquez

Robert Velasquez of Houston, Texas, loving husband, father and grandfather went home to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at the age of 80, surrounded by his wife, daughter and granddaughter. He was born in Waelder, Texas on November 24, 1943.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luis Velasquez, Sr. and Florentina Velasquez, his daughters Carmen V. Garcia and Olivia Velasquez; his siblings Rosie Ann, Alex, Johnny Velasquez and Raielia Escovar. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lucy Velasquez, his daughter Antonette Velasquez and fiancé Mark Figueroa and his precious granddaughter, Frances Marie Olivares; along with his siblings Louis, Alfredo, Joe, Augustine, Leo, Mary Alice and many relatives and close friends.

Robert was a long time member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. He was an avid Astros and Texans fan, he was a member of the Astros Orbiters Club. He also had a passion for restoring classic cars like his 1973 Mercury Cougar Convertible (aka Summer Breeze) which he entered into many car show competitions like the Texas Autorama Custom Car & Hot Rod Show. He placed in the top 50 of the Mid-America Division International Show Car Association (ISCA). Robert also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He retired from Houston Grinding & Manufacturing after 40 years of employment.

Visitation will be held at Earthman's Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, Texas 77060 on Sunday, August 4, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Vigil service will be held at 4:00 PM followed by a Rosary. A funeral Mass will occur Monday, August 5, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2730 Nelwood Dr., Houston, Texas 77038, officiated by Rev. Minh Toan Nguyen. The committal service will be Monday, August 5, 2024 at Forest Park Westheimer, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77077. Serving as Pall Bearers are Leo Velasquez, Jr., Freddy Velasquez, Jr., Gabriel Velasquez, Ian Seth Carrillo, Henry Martinez and Henry Aaron Martinez. Honorary Pall Bearer Rene Villaloboz.
