Rolan Young Chambless was born August 15, 1933 in Tyler, TX to Randall & Nora Chambless as one of 8 children. Major Chambless entered the gates of heaven on February 12, 2021 from Spring, TX, where he had been under peaceful hospice care.
He attended and was saved at the Tyler, TX corps and enrolled as a Senior Soldier on September 12, 1948 at the Tyler corps. He was in Corps Cadets, participated in Open Airs, YPL and most corps activities. He felt the Lords leading to officership on January 28, 1951. It was later that year that he pursued the Lords leading and applied to go to the training school after assisting in Corsicana, TX. He entered training in September 1952 as part of the “Heralds” session and was commissioned on June 1, 1953. His appointments as a single officer took him back to his home State of Texas.
On August 20, 1955 Lt. Rolan Chambless married Lt. Doris Humphreys and they served faithfully as Corps Officers in several cities in Texas and Oklahoma, as commanding officer and city coordinator in San Antonio and Area Commander in Tulsa, OK and Houston, TX. Together they served over 46 years as active officers before retiring July 1, 1999.
Together they had three wonderful sons: Rolan Young Jr., William Orville & David Ernest Chambless. His beloved Doris was promoted to Glory on August 23, 2001, and their son Major William Orville was promoted to Glory on March 8, 2014. Major Rolan Chambless is survived by his two sons, Rolan Jr. and David with their respective spouses, Virda and Nicki, along with Orville’s wife, Major Debra Chambless. He is survived by 10 grandchildren: Nicole, Sterling, Tyler, Mercedes, Kaitlin, Elizabeth, Wylie, Maverick, Makayla, and Cypress, and by 2 great grandchildren: Dean and Mary
Major Chambless loved the Lord, fishing, golfing, water skiing, SINGING and reading HIS Bible. He loved to tell a good joke (over and over to some of us – LOL!) as you may know. He would capture your attention with the sound of his strong voice and the twinkle (shine of a spiritual contentment) he had in those blue eyes. The world has lost a great man, but Heaven has gained a good and faithful servant.
