Roy was born in Houston, Texas on January 9th, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1971.
He worked admirably with Houston Lighting & Power (HL&P) for nearly 20 years as a warehouseman and forklift operator. He also served various jobs over his later years including stints at Dril-Quip and Parker-Hannifin until his retirement in 2015.
As a life-long Houstonian, Roy made his mark on the community with everyone he met. With his no-nonsense demeanor, and witty commentary and banter, Roy made an indelible impression on all those who graced his company. Whether he made a positive impression or not, you couldn’t wait to see him again or ask others how he was doing.
An avid lover of basketball, he played recreational basketball with friends and family whenever he could with his favorite move being the famous “Dream Shake” mastered by the great Hakeem Olajuwon. He also loved rooting for his favorite Houston sports teams taking his kids to see the teams in-person over the years.
He was a life-long member at Our Lady of Guadalupe parish celebrating Sunday mass and volunteering his time cooking and serving hot food during the yearly festivals helping raise money for the church.
He also volunteered the last 10 years of his life at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo helping direct pedestrian and vehicular traffic with the Rodeo Express Committee Teams E Bus Ops and Early Birds.
In his spare time, Roy loved gardening, fixing up the house, reading the Sunday newspaper, cooking barbeque for his family, and caring for his grandchildren.
Roy cherished his wife, Delia, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. Their love story was one of chance, with mutual respect, laughter, and unwavering support. Together, they built a life filled with beautiful memories, from family vacations to drinking coffee at breakfast and watching movies and old Western television programs, always holding each other close.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents Bernardino and Janie, and brothers, Danny, Gregory, and Richard.
Roy is survived by his wife Delia, their 3 sons, Roy Edward, Philip, and Robert, daughter-in-law Mitzi, 3 grandchildren, Micaela, Matthew, and Marisela, brother, Bernardino Jr., and sister Rosemary.
We thank God for blessing us for Roy’s 72 years of life with his family and friends. His kindred spirit will live within us always.
