

District Missionary Rubye Nelle Herron, Th.D Rubye Nelle Smith Herron, 76, the second child of the late Elder Ralph Waldo Emerson Smith and Missionary Helen J. Smith, was born in Tyler, Smith County, Texas. Her childhood was spent there in Bethel Temple and Jerusalem Churches of God in Christ. Her father was a pastor who became Pastoral Shepherd to several different churches, wherein she worked in various capacities. At an early age, Christ drew on her heart to change her life and find new life in Him. Her life changed and she received a new found “LOVE” to exemplify a positive attitude that never reflects hurt. She knew very early that what she found in Church of God in Christ was something that she cherished and planned to remain loyal until the balance of her days were done. Locally, she has served as a secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director, Usher, Trustee, and Sanitation Engineer. She attended Texas College in Tyler, Texas and twelve days following her completion of undergraduate education, she married her soul mate on June 12, 1963, and two months later came to the Southeast area of Texas to live. She and her husband located the Godfrey Chapel Church of God in Christ in Liberty, Texas following her acceptance of an educator’s opportunity. She taught high school English for many years. She has attended the C. H. Mason System of Bible Colleges. In June 2010, she received degrees from Calvary Theological Seminary, graduating with honors as “Student of the Year”, with the highest honor as Summa Cum Laude, “With the Highest Distinction”: as “Most Outstanding Student, with The Most Christ-like Attitude” and the “Most Outstanding Written Work”. She had accepted the request from The Immanuel School of the Bible to assist in teaching in their Bachelor Program, and to participate on the Board of their school. She takes pride in whatever assignment that she is given and knows that “Knowledge Dispels Ignorance”. Since moving to this area of Texas, she joined Williams Temple COGIC, Inc. and has served in many capacities in Texas Southeast First Jurisdiction, under the late Bishop R. E. Woodard, Sr.: Program Committee Processor; Rescue Squad Leader; under the late Mother Victoria Barnes. The late Bishop R. E. Woodard, Jr.; appointed her to the Ordination/Credentials Board, where she served with dedication, as Women’s Liaison. She served as a Hospitality Committee Member, and has been Program Committee Processor. Under Bishop Rufus Kyles, Jr.; she served as Co-Coordinator of the Advisory Board for the Women’s Department under the late Mother Millie Howard. She utilizes every opportunity to do the work of the Evangelist as she has been summoned. Regardless of the challenges which she faces, her motto is “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” On December 2, 2007 she joined Godfrey Chapel COGIC following her son in his pastoral assignment. Dr. Kendrek D. Herron is the Seventh in Succession at Godfrey Chapel Church of God in Christ. She was his number one cheerleader and followed him to all his various speaking engagements. Rubye Nelle Smith Herron was the proud District Missionary of the South Houston District under the leadership of Superintendent Johnny Rhodes. She was so excited, willing and wanting to work under GREATER TEXAS SOUTHEAST FIRST ECCLESIASTICAL JURISDICTION, Dr. Lena I. McClain, Supervisor of Women and Bishop Johnny A. Tates, Prelate. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Emerson Johnson Smith and Chauncey A. Smith. She is survived by her husband of 54 amazing years Judge Kenneth W. Herron, who ultimately has undergirded her in every aspect of her work secular and in the Church. Her children: Deaconess Kneni D. Herron-Journey (Terrence); Dr. Kendrek D. Herron (Also her pastor) who supported her in her work for the Lord. She was the proud grandmother of Kyara LaNelle, Khrystal LaChe’ and Knekya LaChelle. Brother: Supt. Harold G. (Paulette) Smith; Sister: Carolyne L. Daggett (Leon); Nieces: Sabrena Smith, Marketha Graham (Orion), Cecily Blake (Randy), and Dosalyn Y. Smith; Nephews: Jai L. (Katie K.) Daggett and Corey L. (Dionne V.) Daggett. Great Niece and Nephew: Kaia and Jaison Daggett.
