Samuel Ray Boyd, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at the age of 75. Born in Hempstead, Texas, on April 22, 1950, to Earle Boyd, Sr. and Dorothy Sanders, Sam brought joy and laughter into the lives of everyone who knew him.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Sam went on to serve the community through his work with the City of Houston Public Works for many years, later concluding his career with the Houston Downtown District, retiring in 2024. His strong work ethic, warm personality, and easy charm left a lasting impression on colleagues and community members alike.
Sam was known for his infectious laughter, love of music, and unmatched passion for dancing. Whether sharing a joke, a smile, or a dance move, he had a unique gift for lifting spirits and lighting up any room he entered. He deeply cherished time with family and friends.
He is survived by his brother Jerry Burton; his loving children—daughters Yolanda Faye Jackson, Sonya Collins, and Fransha McCullough; sons Adrian Thomas and Randy McCullough; and stepson William McCullough. Sam also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse Betty Boyd, brothers Kenneth Burton and Earle Boyd, Jr., daughter LaTonya Collins, son Samuel Boyd, Jr., grandson Isaiah Wells, and special friend Charlene McCullough.
