Greg was born to Harris Linly Martin and Marsella Kramer Martin, September 25, 1938, in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Bellaire High School in 1956.
He is survived by: Daughter Margo Lynn Martin (Kathryn), son Keith Martin (Linda), granddaughter Natalie Kaczorowski (Ryan), and sister Lynn Coneway.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harris and Marsella Martin and his dearly loved brother, Phillip Louis Martin.
Greg greatly enjoyed serving in the U.S. Army from 1959-1962 as a Signals Intelligence Analyst in Germany – he liked to call himself a spy! Upon returning to the U.S., he soon began a career in stationary engineering and spent most of his career at the Harris County Hospital District as the Chief Stationary Engineer. His greatest pride was that he played a part in the lifesaving efforts of the Hospital District by ensuring that the power, water, heating and air conditioning never failed on his watch. Greg was also appointed to serve as a Harris County Constable. Greg was an avid firearms and gun safety enthusiast, artfully crafting many of his own rifles and teaching marksmanship to each of his children – times that they all remember fondly. He also was a fan of poetry – he loved to recite Lewis Carroll’s “Jabberwocky” or Wylie’s “Kiss Me, Pretty Protoplasm,” which resulted in peals of laughter from his audience, the loudest laughs emanating from himself.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Angels at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. A brief military graveside service will follow. Dr. K.T. Valkyrie will officiate the ceremony. Flowers are welcome at the Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.
