Susan spent much of her life helping others through her long and diverse career in social work. She approached her work with compassion, wisdom, creativity, and a sense of humor.
Susan was a gifted piano player with an artistic eye and a special talent for finding beauty in unexpected places. She loved books, art, music, coffee, cats, company, and travel. She was generous and strong; free-thinking and curious; funny and profoundly smart.
She was deeply proud of her children, Nijole, Karina, and Myko; and her cherished grandchildren, Dominic and Josephine.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In honor of Susan’s dedication to social work, her deep love of books, and her belief in the power of education and the arts, the family asks that donations be made to the Houston Public Library—an institution whose future depends on the care of those who believe, as she did, that open access to knowledge is a means to hope and joy.
