

Thelma "Sue" Roberts Cody was born in Taft, Texas on October 26, 1930, and died August 20, 2023. She was 92 years old. She was the daughter of Verne and Thelma Roberts. She graduated from Taft High School in 1947 and received a bachelor's degree and teaching certificate from David Lipscomb College (Nashville) in 1951. She married Dr. Robert Oswald Cody in 1955, and they lived together in Wharton, Texas. Together they raised one child.
She was preceded in death by Dr. Robert Cody. She is survived by a son Benjamin Virgil Cody Ill; 3 sisters, Mary Eunice Roberts Bull, Joyce Wren Roberts Maxwell and Dr. Sybil Roberts Morgan; her sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Cody McMorris; her sister Raudolyn Ray Roberts is deceased; 7 Nieces, Margaret Elaine McMorris Spitzenberger, Dr. Sarah Bull, Shelley Wren Maxwell Penrod, Amanda Lynn Morgan, Rachel Kathryn Roberts Corlew, Leigh Kimberly Roberts Lakes and Kippie Carol Roberts (last 3 are daughters of brother Roland Delevar Roberts, deceased); 11 nephews, David Charles McMorris, Joseph Robert McMorris, Dennis Hartman Cody, Dr. Glen Bull, Walter Lee Maxwell, Jr., Robert Alan Maxwell, Dr. Robert Douglas Morgan, Kevin Verne Roberts (son of Roland Delevar Roberts, deceased), Barrett Scott Baxter, Richard Alan Baxter, and Dr. John Douglas Baxter (last 3 are sons of sister Wanda Roberts Baxter, deceased).
Sue worked as an Elementary school teacher teaching 3rd grade for Wharton Independent School District for well over 40 years. Sue enjoyed writing poetry, genealogy, music, friends, and family. Sue was the genealogist for the Roberts family, successfully tracing her family lineage back to the Mayflower. She also did genealogy research on the Cody side of the family. She introduced family to their ancestors with anecdotes that made them real. Bobby and Sue were long time faithful members of First Presbyterian Church of Wharton, Texas. Bobby and Sue shared a love of music together. They occasionally taught private music lessons and sold music and instruments in their home. Together, they started Cody Music in 1985. Many young people's lives were forever touched by Bobby and Sue Cody and given the gift of Cody music.
