Sue was our poet laureate in the Class of '48, Taft High School, Taft, Texas, 1944-1948. Demurely, she put to poetry our thoughts, activities and aspirations. Studiously, she distinguished herself as our class salutatorian.
Farewell, dear Sue.

Sue Roberts Cody was salutatorian of our high school graduation class, and this level of performance she maintained throughout her life.  She was a poet and a teacher of children—charming, caring, loving and steadfast to her faith. This world is a better place for her having lived and loved in it.

I am so very sorry to see this news about Sue. Over the last few years I’ve tried searching her name online as I hadn’t had any responses to the emails that I sent her a few years ago. Her and I first connected in 2008 when it turned out that my great grandmother  Cordia Moore Was Sue’s mother’s cousin. She sent me a ton of family tree information and a few photos of my great grandmother that I had never seen before. I will forever treasure those photos. My Aunt Sue was delightful.  She was our family genealogist - before DNA testing simplified things.  She visited courthouses and cemeteries, as well as establishing online friendships with other genealogists.  Sue shared not just names but anecdotes about ancestors.  The history she gave us is a gift to future generations. She enjoyed writing poetry and sharing time with others who shared her interest. She and her husband Bob Cody worked for most of their lives, partly because of their passion for their pursuits but also to insure a happy future for their son.  Sue was a strong and fascinating woman who will live on the memories of those who knew her.

Sue was one of the most caring and loving people I’ve ever met. She loved her family and her friends, especially her son Benjamin. Sue you will be missed by everyone.

My condolences to Sue's son, Benjamin, her sisters Mary Eunice, Joyce and Sybil, and other extended family members, at the loss of your lovely mother, sister and relative.  Sue was the first cousin of my mother, Virginia Roberts Fuston Forbess.  I knew her parents from my childhood, as our extended family would occasionally enjoy lengthy family reunions at various spots around Texas and Oklahoma.  Sue and I became acquainted in 2004 when she circulated among family members a notice that she had compiled a book of poetry written by a distant relative in the late 1800s.  From my response to this notice, we developed a correspondence which lead to several visits in both Wharton and San Antonio.  Sue was a lovely, delightful lady whose embrace of me and my husband, Kevin, was beyond generous.  I'm certain that I'm not alone in saying that knowing Sue brought happiness to me.
