Virginia Sue (Cleland) Godwin, passed away on Friday, March 25th at the age of 81 at her home in Tomball, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She lost her life after a long battle with heart disease. Virginia was born January 15, 1941, in Houston, Texas and was the daughter of Parker and Mildred Cleland. She lived in the Heights and graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1959, where she was an exemplary student and a bugle lieutenant in the Reagan Red Coats’ drum and bugle corps. It was there that she met her sweetheart Jimmy Godwin who she married shortly after graduation and celebrated 53 years of marriage. She attended The University of Houston as an Art Major. She was the proud and dedicated mother to six children and filled life with arts, crafts, fashion and interior design. She was an accomplished florist, seamstress and cake decorator. She is probably best known in the community for her beautiful Christmas decorations, for which she won several awards, and her amazing Halloween costumes, cupcakes and displays. Virginia was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in the Heights, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Ray Godwin, her parents, Parker and Mildred Cleland, her sister Linda and most recently her brother, Harold Cleland. Virginia is survived by her children, Connie Gilseth and husband Carlen, Kelly Godwin, Keith Godwin and wife Cheryl, Tracey Godwin, Kevin Godwin and wife Lucy, and Tara Burrer and husband Eric. She is also survived by grandchildren Joshua and Jordan Guerra, Evan, Gretchen, and Austin Godwin, Olivia and Ginger Marie Denbina, Miles, Tabitha, and Wells Godwin, and Megan and Ashley Burrer. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Boulevard, Houston, Texas, 77008. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 10 am Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church, 3606 Beauchamp at Pecore, Houston, Texas 77009. A graveside service will be held at approximately 1PM at Klein Memorial Park on FM 2920 in Tomball, Texas. A reception for family and friends will follow in Tomball.
