

W.A. was born September 14, 1937 in Jasper (Walker County), Alabama to Garfield Banks and Lessie Russell Banks. W.A. moved to Houston, Texas around 1954 in search of work and he lived here for the next 53 years. In 2007 W.A. semi-retired to New Braunfels, Texas for the next 12 years. During his time in Houston he worked various jobs and trades. He worked at Hydril Company for 30.5 years as an Inspector (overseeing the machinist’s quality for blow out preventers) and served as President of United Steelworkers of America, Local 5801. During a part of that time he also co-operated B&R Crating Company. After he retired from Hydril, he started and successfully operated Banks Total Contracting Commercial and Residential Construction business for over 20 years. He was a member of the Harris County Chamber of Commerce and the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce. W.A. enjoyed watching football and baseball. His favorite football teams were the Houston Texans and especially the University of Alabama, (Roll Tide). His favorite baseball team was the Houston Astros.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Valerie Ann Hyde, daughter Donna Renee Campbell, and brothers, Erlan Banks, James Banks, Victor Banks, and Charles Banks
He is survived by his loving Wife of 45 years, Christine Matranga Banks, Older Brother: Ernest Banks and wife Jeannie, of San Dimas, California; Daughters: Doris (Dee) Ann Banks of New Braunfels, Texas; Deanna Lynn Banks-Dempsey and husband, Tommy of Lafayette, Louisiana; Sons: Darrell Wayne Banks, of New Braunfels, Texas; William (Will) Albert Banks, Jr. and Wife, Janine of Richmond, Texas; and Anthony Garfield Banks of New Braunfels, Texas; Grandchildren: Brandi Leigh Hyde, Corey Scott Campbell, Kevin Carl Fernandes, Kerri Elizabeth McNeese, Zachary Orlando Fernandes, Alexa Chiara Banks and Lucas Evan Banks. Four great-grandchildren, Valyn Alyse Brown, Maggie McNeese, Kayleigh Jade Campbell, Lileigh Dianne Campbell, and Marleigh Grace Campbell.
He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
