

William Sylvester Kucera, 95, went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2010. He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Nannie Jane Palmer Kucera, son William Kucera Jr. and wife Mary, daughter Janet Curtis, brother Calvin Kucera, sisters Lilly Hawn and Mary Jane Kresta, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Robert Eugene Kucera in 1949 at age six, parents Steve Kucera and Mary Holy, brothers Joe, John, Steve, Frank, Charles and sisters Albina and Lydia.
Mr. Kucera was born January 1, 1915 in Taylor, TX. He attended school in Inez, TX and served three years with the U.S. Army 51st Field Artillery Division A Battery B. After the end of the World War II, he moved to Houston TX where he went to work at Schlumberger as a machinist and retired after 31 years.
He served as Service officer for AMVETS post #2 and as a volunteer for the V.A. Hospital. He was elected on the Executive Committee for Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service. He received recognition from Mayor Lee Brown as well as awards from the Disabled Veterans and the American Veterans Post #2 for his service to the VA Hospital and to his fellow veterans.
He enjoyed his time with the Veterans and all the wonderful and courageous people he met at the hospital. He was a member of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church since 1949, a member of the S.P. J.S.T Lodge #88 for over 63 years and a member of Glen Brook Valley Civic Club.
He loved Czech food and music. He and his wife danced polkas and the waltz for over 60 years. Mr. Kucera will be greatly missed by all those that know and loved him.
Visitation will be held from 5pm to 9pm Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home with a rosary at 7:30pm. Funeral Services will be Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 10am at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, 8150 Park Place Blvd, Houston, TX. 77017.
Serving as Pallbearers will be: Mark Brown, Dr. Lyn Alan Palmer, Tommy Kucera, Dr.Kyle Kucera, Robert Pennington, Norman W. Pennington and serving as Honorary Pallbearers: Dr. Kristine Kucera Denham, George Bachmeyer and the members of the American Veterans Post #2.
In lieu of flowers make donations to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Alliance of Greater Houston, 6700 Beechnut, Houston TX. or Shriners Hospital-Houston.
