Amparo Fabiani Cancel (96), passed away Thursday at Huntsville Hospital surrounded by her loving family. "Mama Cancel" or Amparito was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Amparo was born March 29, 1923 in a small seaside village, Guayanilla on the island of Puerto Rico.
She attended the University of Puerto Rico and taught school for 2 years before getting married to her husband of 65 years, Reinaldo (Rey) Cancel. Amparo immediately became busy raising three sons and convinced Rey to leave Puerto Rico in 1957 to bring the family to Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas. The family then moved to Huntsville in 1960 until 1974 when Rey found his best job—Farming and raising cattle for the next 29 years.
Mrs. Cancel is survived by three sons, Ivan (Donna) and Walter (Norma) of Huntsville, Edgar (Lynn) of Jacksonville, AL; 6 grandchildren, Erin (Kay), Jason (Rufina), Josh (Amy), Amy, Scott and Tyler; 6 great-grandchildren, Zach, Britany, Danica, Clay, Lucas and Cameron.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be conducted at 5:00 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Valhalla Funeral Home.
