RET SSG Andre James Short

On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the age of 65, beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend Andre James Short, Sr departed from this world to go on to dwell in The House of the Lord with his beloved wife, Ronell Short, and his father, Edward Short, Sr. He is survived by is 90 year old Mother, Nora H. Short of Chester, PA.

From that room in the Father’s mansion, the light of Andre’s endless love shines down from heaven as it did in life upon his children (Andre II, Cashauna, and Lamont); grandchildren (Marcus, Sanai’a, Kurtis, Treyshon, Sandra, Montrell, and Mehlani); and great-grandchild (Kaysen). It is a love that shines upon his brothers (Edward Jr., Keith, and Joe) and sisters (Wanda and Santemu). It is a love that also shines upon his 90 year old mother, Nora H. Short of Chester, PA along with numerous family members, both those born of blood and of the heart, and friends.

Andre was born on Dec. 3, 1957, to Edward and Nora H. Short in Chester, PA. It was there that he met the love of his life, Ronell. Upon graduating high school, he dedicated 15 years in service to his country in the Army. He retired from the military service with the rank of Staff Sergeant and settled his family in Huntsville, AL.

His large physical stature and booming voice were dwarfed by the size of his heart and humor. He was a caring and loving man who was an avid supporter of those to whom he was close. He worshiped and served the Lord at Madkins Chapel, where he never hesitated to extend his hand to aid those who needed it.

A Public Viewing for Andre will be held Monday, July 31, 2023 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Valhalla Funeral Home & Memory Gardens, 698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. A Homegoing Service will occur Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at 11:00am in Valhalla's Celebration Chapel. Mr. Short will lie in repose one hour prior to services. Though his body is to be laid to rest, Andre’s spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew him in life.
