

Barbara was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe East, to whom she was married for 46 years, and Jack Tiller, to whom she was married for 19 years; her great-granddaughter, Macie Sexton; and her brother, J.C. McCutcheon. She is survived by her children, Jackie East (Carol), Michael East (Kathy), and Judy East Sexton (Tommy Sherrill); grandchildren, Shane Sexton, April East McIntosh, Kenny East, Jessica East Gillon, Blake East, Benjamin East, and Nicole East; great-grandchildren, Brody Sexton, Mahaley Sexton, Noah McIntosh, Lydia McIntosh, Dalton Gillon, Tanner Gillon, Mason Gillon, Eiley East, Christopher Ferguson, and Emma Ferguson; and her sisters, Mary Steelman and Shirley Walls.
Barbara was born in Lacey Springs, the first of four children born to James and Frances McCutcheon. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and strength. She dedicated her life to her family and was always there with loving actions, a listening ear, and a warm embrace.
She married Joe East at a young age and began her life as a stay-at-home mother, raising three children. As her children grew older, Barbara returned to school and pursued higher education. She earned a certification in Conversational French from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1992 and completed a course in Interior Decorating at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1991. In 1999, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Management of Human Resources from Faulkner University in Huntsville, Alabama.
Barbara was very active in her church and attended Weatherly Road Assembly of God. She was a devout Christian who served as a wonderful example to her family and friends. Known for her elegance and grace, Barbara was always well put together, and until just a few years ago, she was rarely seen without her high heels.
Visitation will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Road NE, Huntsville, AL 35811, on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 p.m.
