On February 11, 2025, Billy “Bill” Louie Lockhart, a very brave and courageous soul, departed this life for his heavenly one to be with our Savior, Jesus, and of course, the love of his life and wife of almost sixty years, Linda Jean Lockhart.
Bill, of Madison, Alabama, was also predeceased in death by his father, Walter Narvin Lockhart; his mother, Lessie A. Lockhart; his sisters, Suzie Irene Studdard and Wilma Juanita Newton; and his brother, Walter Narvin “Dub” Lockhart, Jr.. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah “Debbie” Nieberlein (Miles) and Judith “Judy” Morris (Morgan); grandchildren, William Morris (Megan), Jeremy Morris and Andrew Morris (Maggie). He also leaves behind several loved and adored great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many cherished friends.
Bill grew up in Mississippi before moving to Alabama where he later began his life’s long passion of fire fighting. Initially, Bill started his vocation as a volunteer fireman. In 1969, Bill joined his City of Huntsville Fire Department family, where he retired as a Captain, with a career of service spanning around 30 years. During the Vietnam era, Bill served in the Army National Guard. Also, Bill has been a Mason with the Masonic Lodge of Madison, Alabama, since the 1970’s.
While working at a fire station, Bill dutifully and honorably answered a call every time an alarm sounded, however, even when he was “not on duty”, he was driven to support his brothers in uniform from behind the scenes as well. Other past times of Bill included hunting and fishing; fixing and repairing “broken” things; cooking for friends and family; and helping to raise money for countless fundraisers with his lodge brothers or church.
Bill lived a lifetime of dedication in service to his fellow man. He touched countless lives with his kind generosity, bravery, humor and heroism. As his legacy, this is what will live on through the hearts and minds of those who held, and will always hold, him dear.
Visitation for Bill will be held, Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., at Valhalla Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, 698 Winchester Road NE, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. A celebration of life service, with firefighter honors, will be held Monday, February 17, 2025, at 11:00 A.M., at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel, 698 Winchester Road, NE, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. Immediately following, Bill will be laid to rest in Valhalla Memory Gardens, Huntsville, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that any donations be made to a Shriner’s Burn Hospital, the Shriner’s Children’s Organization, St. Jude’s Hospital, your local Alzheimer’s Association or just tell a firefighter thank you for their selfless service.
