At age 90, longtime resident of Huntsville, AL, Carolyn White Crane went to meet The Lord on July 4, 2023. Born on January 12, 1933, in Mobile, AL, Carolyn was influenced by her Catholic faith and the joys of growing up in a large family and mothering a large family of her own. She genuinely lived her life devoted to God, caring for her family, and serving others.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew E. Crane, Jr., her parents, Malcomb M. White and Willie D. (Willadee) White, as well as, sisters Delores Bubenchik and Debe Patricia Smith (Patsy) and brothers Teddy, Ashbell, Norman and Billy White. She was also the proud mother of six children. Preceded in death by 2 sons Matthew E. Crane III and Phillip L. Crane, she is survived by her remaining children Daniel T. Crane (Vivian), Tammy Crane DeSanctis (Ed), Sherrie Crane Nash (Bill), and Melanee Crane Posey (Brian). At the time of her death, Carolyn left a legacy of 10 living grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She will be missed by sisters-in-law Sue White and Wanda White as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Carolyn also had a life-long friendship with Ray Kirkland who was like a brother to the entire White family.
Growing up in the Oakdale area of Mobile, AL Carolyn attended St. Matthew's Catholic School, Bishop Toolen High School and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Old Mobile School of Nursing. She eventually went on to earn an additional degree in Psychology from Athens State University. She is known by many for her nursing career and after retirement, was very passionate about continuing to serve others through Saint Vincent de Paul and numerous other outreach ministries.
Carolyn was a true southern lady with a drawl that endlessly entertained her children and grandchildren, especially with her gift of turning one syllable words into three. She could often be found on the lake fishing, camping, and hosting fish fries for family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, playing games, watching old cowboy shows, and fellowshipping with her bible study and church friends. Her loved ones will always remember her for her strength, humility, common sense wisdom, and humor.
An ideal day for Carolyn would be to wake up and eat ‘brefess’ at ‘Hop’, grab a ‘yaller’ chair and take it on the ‘whaaf’ to fish at the ‘Guf’, only later to find herself ‘flustrated’ after learning there’s no such thing as a ‘Little Mac’, so she would have to settle for a ‘Jr. Hopper’. After lunch she would say her prayers, praising ‘Hossaner’ to ‘The Lawd’! She would end her ideal day eating dinner at ‘The Shawnee’s’ and watching ‘Bob Barker’s Show’. Carolyn spent her final chapter of life at a wonderful private Care Home called Helen’s Place where she was greatly loved and well cared for.
A visitation will be held for Carolyn Crane at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Madison, AL on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. The graveside will take place at a later time for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, Carolyn would appreciate a donation to your local Saint Vincent de Paul Ministry. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.valhallafunerals.com for the Crane family.
