

David was born to Lester and Dorothy (Moore) Hammond on July 13, 1946 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. He attended Covenant Theological Seminary and Reformed Presbyterian Seminary. In 1970 he began a one-year internship at the newly started Westminster Christian Academy and married the love of his life, Dixie Davenport one year later, on December 18, 1971. David taught Bible for 50 years at Westminster Christian Academy. He also served as Development Director, Alumni Coordinator, and Vice Principal throughout his time at Westminster. David dedicated his life to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in the Presbyterian Church and was instrumental in starting several churches.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald Hammond and grandson John Thomas Yuan Hammond.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Dixie Hammond; two sons; Matthew (Rochelle) Hammond and Aaron (Erica) Hammond; one daughter, Emily (Jeremy) Donaldson; twelve grandchildren, Allie and Madi Miniclier, Morgan (Sheldon) Walker, Emma (Matthew) Graham, David Aaron Hammond, Chloe Hammond, Carter Hammond, Jackson Hammond, Clara Hammond, Julia Hammond, Wyatt Donaldson and Chase Donaldson; and two great grandchildren, Calvin and Eva Graham.
Visitation will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church from 4:00-8:00 pm on Friday, August 16.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 17, also at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers the family humbly requests donations be made to the Katie Edgar Willis fund through Westminster Presbyterian Church. Checks may be mailed to the church at 5744 Oakwood Rd NW, Huntsville, AL 35806.
