She was preceded in death by her husband, George Kenneth Rideout of 68 years. She is survived by her sons, Dennis and his wife Pam of Gurley, AL, Garry and his wife Carol of Verona, NJ, and Monta Middleton of Scant City, AL; grandchildren, John, Carl, and Rebecca and great-grandson, Donovan.
Born to Hardy Mac and Irene McWilliams in Atlanta TX, Mamie was raised by Mamie and Albert Johnson and grew up in Queen City TX. Mamie Johnson was Hardy Mac’s brother. After the McWilliams had 5 girls Hardy Mac told his sister if they “have another girl she could just have her!” The Johnsons could not have children so during the depression they took in Mamie to help out the family.
After WWII Mamie worked at Red River Arsenal where she met Ken Rideout and they married in 1951. Ken and Mamie moved to Huntsville in 1955 at the start of the Space Age. They settled on Monte Sano and were members of Monte Sano Methodist Church. She was a Red Cross volunteer for 37 years and a long-time member of Monte Sano Garden Club and Mountaineers.
She will be greatly missed by her family and community.
