Neoma Fay Tucker, age 85, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025 in Huntsville, Alabama, where she had lived since 2016. Born on April 14, 1940 in Dyersburg, Tennessee, Fay moved to Memphis, Tennessee as a young child, where she lived for 75 years before relocating to Huntsville to be closer to family.
Fay was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a deep passion for family and her love for storytelling was only matched by her devotion to preserving her family's history. Fay spent many happy hours researching her genealogy, often sharing her discoveries with her children and grandchildren.
A lifelong reader and lover of puzzles, Fay found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She also had a lifelong fondness for Elvis Presley and could often be found singing along to his tunes or enjoying memorabilia from the King. Her love for games, especially Scrabble, was another trademark of her personality, and she was known to challenge anyone who was up for it.
Fay worked for 22 years as a federal employee, retiring in 1994. She held positions as a computer operator with the Department of the Navy and as a tax inspector for the IRS. She was a proud member of NARFE Chapter 1968 and took great pride in her service to her country and community.
She is survived by her two children, Vernon O'Neil Tucker Jr. and Lisa Fay Tucker; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace Key, Thomas Paul Clunan, Brandon O'Neil Tucker, and Madeline Claire Strange; and her great-grandchildren, Abigail Lee Key, Gavin Trent Clunan, Aiden Christian Easlick, Tegan Jean Tucker, and Korinne Claire Tucker.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Dee Fortner and Dollie Lou (Hines) Fortner; and her siblings, Willie Dee "Buddy" Fortner Jr., Katherine (Fortner) Forbus, and Jackie (Fortner) Bell.
A simple gathering will be held for family and friends on Sunday December 7th, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home, located at 698 Winchester Road NE, Huntsville, AL 35758.
Nana Fay will be deeply missed, but her spirit and love for her family will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
