She was born in Drumright, Oklahoma, to her loving parents, Okey and Flossie Wilson. Raised on a farm, Okey learned the value of hard work early in life, tending to chores before and after school. In 1945, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she began a long and dedicated career in civil service, starting at the Pentagon. Her commitment to service spanned 50 years, culminating in her retirement from Redstone Arsenal in 1995.
In 1951, she met the love of her life, William P. Ansick. After his persistent efforts to win her over, she finally agreed to a date—beginning a beautiful journey that would last 61 years. Together, they traveled with the Army, built a loving home, and raised two children. Their legacy grew to include three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Okey was known for her kind and generous spirit. In her later years, she was surrounded by angels in her neighborhood and community who lovingly looked out for her—sometimes even from a distance—ensuring she was safe and cared for. She was always willing to give to others, often putting their needs before her own. She had a deep love for animals, a passion she passed down through her family. Strong-willed and independent, she remained determined to care for herself as she aged.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially tending to her vibrant flower garden filled with a variety of colors and blooms. She also took great pride in being a wonderful cook during her years raising her family.
She is survived by her children, Vince (Frances) and Anita; her grandchildren, Randy (Alexa), Jennifer (Steve), and William; her great-grandchildren, Anika, Miles, Allie, Charleigh, and Steven; and a beloved niece, Brenda, with whom she shared a special bond.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, 698 Winchester Road NE, Huntsville, Alabama. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM.
Okey will be remembered for her strength, kindness, and the deep love she had for her family and all who knew her.
