Richard was born on August 11, 1951, to Charley Henderson Hammond and Anna Margaret Sanders
Hammond in Pasadena, California. He attended Cerritos Junior College in Cerritos California where he
earned an Associates of Arts degree. Then went on to California Polytechnic University in Pamona,
California and was awarded a bachelors of science degree in Engineering Technology.
Richard married Ruth Ann Angel on November 2, 1973 in Lakewood, California. They lived there for
17 more years and after earning his degree he worked for Pacific Pumps, Deutsch Fasteners supporting
military hardware in the Mediterranean, and Hughes Aircraft on the TOW missile systems. His most
cherished activity was being a Christian and serving others however he could. He served as a deacon in
the Lord's church for 11 years in California at West Anaheim church of Christ. He also served his
community as a Boy Scout Leader, and was the only Girl Scout Trainer in north Alabama.
Richard moved to Alabama in 1991 where he worked in engineering as a program manager with
companies associated with Redstone Arsenal. While in the Tennessee valley he worked for SCI, ASRC
Federal, and most recently SAS as a Records Archivist.
Along with Richard's desire to serve God he also had a passion to help others create wellness in their
lives. One of the ways he accomplished this was through working with dōTerra and teaching people
about oils and their uses. He achieved an Elite rank with the company.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and he is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Ruth
Ann Angel Hammond, their children - Ryan Hammond, Darcy (Hammond) Simmons, and Colin
Hammond their spouses - April, Chris, and Aubrey. Six grandchildren, and brother Bruce Hammond,
his spouse - Delores and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life for Richard at his home in Athens on Friday June 19, 2020 at 11am.
