Sorting through some family photos, I came across this one from Christmas just a few years ago.  I thought I'd share it here.

Uncle Bob always had a common sense calm to his demeanor, even when faced with the nonsensical contradictions of a six year old.


In 1975 or '76, Bob was visiting us in Traverse City, MI.  It was a pleasant summer but this particular late summer day was oppressively hot and humid.   The Great Lakes will do that and almost no one had air conditioning being cold most of the year.

So everyone retreated inside where it was at least a little cooler.   This is where my six year old rationale decided it'd be great to sit on his lap for a story.  I assure you Bob was understandably less than enthusiastic about the notion.  It took a little persistence.

But in a display of what I saw as his usual 'others first' mentality he gave in, sat me on across his knees and picked up a Curious George book.   Though my idea, this activity was not without it's personal dangers and I knew it.   (for the uninitiated;  small children were always at considerable risk of tickle-attacks from randomly timed "wood bores" in Bob's presence).

Being a swirl of science and humor, he had no trouble coping with my insistence that Curious George's hat was not in fact, yellow.  My assessment was evidenced by the fact that Big Bird was a quite a proper yellow on my black and white TV.  He spun some satisfactory explanation about why the hat's color was yellow.  Though I can't recall what it was, I remember appreciating that I'd learned something interesting.

Ask me to produce 2 other memories from the age of six and I can't do it.  But this memory contains both the sense of my Uncle Bob, events, environment and above all feeling very special in that moment.  He had a way with that, didn't he?

Bob was the best brother a little girl could have. There was ten years between us but instead of treating me as a pest, we played games together and he spent time babysitting when he could have been out with his friends.  I enjoyed hearing him playing the piano. He could play anything by ear. This is probably why I became a musician  for my life’s work.  So many good memories remain of our growing up years! I will miss him. 

So many memories of such a kind and loving soul.
I think it was in 2011, Bob and I were heading out to Kentucky & Pennsylvania for meetings with our customers with American Mining, before departing there were snacks, hugs & prayers from Rochelle for safety and success on our trip❤.  Learned alot from Bob along the way from great conversations and his interactions with customers.  
I can still hear his laughter down the hall in the office when one of the guy's would make a funny 😊
 And Rochelle lighting candles at home during the most difficult days at AME.  (Can't think of Bob without thinking of Rochelle)
They were definitely "one" and always supportive of one another and others.
Enjoyed going to dinner and listening to Bob's stories of his funny memories (including the accent as he was telling) of Von Braun😂.
and Rochelle's memories of growing up on the farm, sometimes others would be present and they would tell these stories again, still just as pleasant for me as the first time😊
Bob was also a great listener as you were speaking, being careful to hear every word to offer his best and most caring response and advice.
Bob and Rochelle always showing Love and concern for others even in the midst of their hardships.. I Pray will be a lesson for all of us.  They were such a Blessing in my life.  Bob along with Rochelle will LIVE..

I remember growing up using his tools to pretend to build things in his garage. I'm going to miss him. ❤

After receiving a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, Robert E. (Bob) Pease embarked on a truly extraordinary, consequential and remarkable professional career.  In 1954, he was commissioned as an officer in  the fledgling U.S. Army Ballistic Missile Command, which eventually led him to become an original founding member of America's bold new venture into manned space flight by accepting an assignment with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.  During the next two decades of distinguished service with NASA, he established a singular trademark reputation for personal integrity and unsurpassed engineering proficiency, perhaps best exemplified by the collaborative professional affinity and mutual respect reflected in a close working relationship with the legendary Wernher von Braun.  During the Apollo program, Bob served as Project Manager of the J-2 Engine program, powering the 2nd stage of the famed Saturn V launch vehicle - which would ultimately accomplish the first phase of America's historic moon landings.  He consistently demonstrated a unique capability for technical analysis and troubleshooting, often assigned to lead agency-wide efforts associated with resolving the most difficult and perplexing technical issues of the day.  His unique talents and brilliant ingenuity were particularly useful in the development of novel engineering concepts applied to intricate component elements of cryogenic liquid-fueled rocket engines, including design of an innovative restart capability for the J-2 as part of the Saturn V S-IVB third-stage.  While his numerous contributions represented truly revolutionary advancements in aerospace technology, NASA would eventually re-task his extraordinary engineering and managerial capabilities "underground" ... in 1975, he was named Manager of the Mineral Extraction Program, foreshadowing his subsequent venture into private business as Founder and President of American Mining Electronics, Inc.

What a wonderful, kind brilliant man he was.  I feel so blessed that he was my father-in-law. What a gift! He showed me such love and respect and kindness and I loved him dearly.  Sending love to you,   Suzanne,  at this difficult time. You exemplified in every way what sacrificial love is in the way you gave your all to your dad in the way you cared for him all these years. I know this loss is immeasurable for you and for Chris as well, but he is in a much better place with your mom. I was honored that he let me also call him “Dad”. 

Until we meet again, Dad. We love you. 

We met Bob & Rochelle through Holy Spirit when we were providing full time care to my mother-in-law & father-in-law, both of whom were battling Alzheimers. They made personal trips to our home to provide our parents communion and share the Sunday scriptures and message of the day to us all. We can't say enough how much that ministry meant at our time of need and we continued to keep them in prayer and enjoyed other social gatherings at our home and meeting up with Bob and Suzanne for lunch over the years. Our love to your family. 

Bob was one of the best men I ever knew.  He was brilliant beyond measure.  Top NASA engineer, he took early retirement to start his own engineering company, American Mining Electronics, Inc.  He pioneered ground breaking technologies initially developed to space travel, to navigating underground mining machinery.  His little company was successful at development of navigation strategies that large corporations could not.  He had a knack for disassembling very complex  ideas into many smaller simple ones, and making them work.  I met him through dating his daughter.  We became instant friends.  Later she married me, and Bob threw the biggest and best party I ever went to for our wedding.  He eventually hired me and I was privileged to work alongside him for many years.  He was a force, and will be greatly missed.  Rest In Peace, Bob, as your memory will live on in the rest of us enjoying the impact you had on us.  I love you like a Father, a Brother, and a Best Friend.

Bob villa was a little joke me and another co worker had when referring to BOB ,gonna miss you Boss father like buddy pal ol friend of minds , I will continue to use the knowledge you past down to me until I meet my time , one time we had a heated disagreement and at the end I said I’m done and he said he was too❤️Rest In Peace
