He achieved a PhD in Humanities majoring in German and Russian. He loved languages and traveling the world. He taught German at UNC Greensboro, Duke, University of Heidelberg and the Defense Language Institute in San Francisco. He served as an Intelligence Research Specialist with HQ USAREUR in Heidelberg and the Military Liaison Office at the US Consulate General in Munich. He was a top notch translator of complex German documents, master diplomat and representative at host nation functions, and a brilliant conversationalist with superb German language skills.
Robert enjoyed meeting people and he brightened the day with his sunny disposition. He found opportunities to learn about people everywhere he went. He would be sure to remember people the next time he saw them. He remembered people by their names. He liked to laugh and joke around, but he was also highly intelligent and detail oriented.
He maintained a positive attitude and faced adversity bravely. We remember him for the his delightful personality and his uniqueness. He was one of a kind, “Das Unikat” as he liked to call himself. Be friendly to someone today in memory of “Robaire”
