Obituary of Glenn Thomas "Tom" Recktenwall
Glenn Thomas Recktenwall Glenn Thomas Recktenwall was born September 22, 1942 in Gary, Indiana to the late Glenn E. and Dorothy (nee Pemberton) Recktenwall. He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Everett Recktenwall. Tom passed away on April 10, 2024 due to complications after a successful heart surgery. Tom graduated from Purdue University where he met his future wife, Bobbie, and where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Tom and Bobbie moved to Indianapolis in 1970 and then to Zionsville in 2010. He was a long-time member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. His career path began in his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps at U.S. Steel, but new paths eventually led him to becoming the Director of Architecture, Design and Construction for Hilton Hotels Worldwide in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. He loved traveling to many states from Maine to Hawaii, and to Canada and Europe. Special memories include times with dear friends and family near Petosky, Michigan, Hilton Head, and in The Villages and Naples, Florida; a canoe and fishing trip with his son to the Boundary Waters in Ontario; and a trip in his youth to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He was a member of the John Purdue Club and enjoyed decades of tailgating with friends and family and watching football and basketball games at Ross-Ade Stadium and Mackey Arena. Tom loved the outdoors and had fun fly-fishing and playing golf with his son, son-in-law, brothers, brothers-in-law, and friends. Tom is survived by his wife Roberta/Bobbie of 55 years, daughter Catherine/Carrie (Ted) Hovermale, grandchildren Leo and Zoe Hovermale of Lafayette, and Michael Thomas Recktenwall of Carmel, Indiana; sister Nancy (Richard) Sparks of Ellicott City, Maryland, brothers Ron (Diane) of Chesterton, Indiana, Richard of Crown Point, Indiana, Dan (Laurie Krieger) of Valparaiso, Indiana; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Tom was a very kind, caring person who exemplified compassion, warmth, and humility. He had a big heart full of love for his family, friends, neighbors and associates and would want them to know that he felt their love. The family would like to thank the angels disguised as nurses and doctors at the St. Vincent Heart Center in Carmel, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association at www.heart.org, to The Indiana Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, 620 East Ohio Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202 or to the donor’s organization of choice.
