To Sir with LOVE   

Those “Bond” girl days of sharing wits and taking pills are gone.
But in my mind I know that thoughts of you will linger on and on.
But how do you thank someone who has taken you from learning about   RACCOONS.
  
But UNCLE BZ I will try.… 
If you wanted the stars, I would do my best to reach the skies and would call the CATS  to come and oblige.   To Sir, With Love.

The time has come, for closing tents and long way drives must end.  
And as I, leave, I know that I am Leaving my dear friend.
A friend who taught me natural laws and weak is strong  that’s a lot to learn.
But…   What can I give you in return?
If you wanted the moon I would try to make a mark
But I …would rather, you let me give my heart.

Harold and Pauline were the best neighbors anyone could ask for!  Not long after we moved to Bloomington in 1989, Jim was outside planting trees when along came a fellow he had never met.  Harold introduced himself and offered Jim the use of his Mantis tiller/cultivator to make the hole-digging process easier.  We couldn’t believe someone would offer a total stranger the use of his not-inexpensive tool.  Harold said something to the effect of “neighbors help neighbors.”  Indeed.

One of our fondest memories of Harold is the first time he came to our door with a cart full of vegetables from his and Pauline’s garden.  He didn’t ask if we wanted any of their bounty, but rather he asked, "How many do you want?"  And “none” was not an acceptable answer!  We remember their sizeable garden, especially the asparagus because we’d never before seen it growing in a garden.  And they grew a lot of it!  We also remember the lilies – which were named – that they were so proud of.  They gave us some of the lilies and we planted them at our house.

One snowy winter morning we were getting ready for work when we heard the sound of a motor outside – and it sounded nearby.  Curious, we looked out the window, and there was Harold clearing our driveway with his snowblower.  That he would get up early on a cold winter morning and go to all that effort just to make our lives easier spoke volumes as to the kind and generous man he was.

We loved spending time with Harold and Pauline, and we have many fond memories of our times together.  We loved hearing about their careers, their numerous and interesting travel adventures, and of course their children and grandchildren, who they were so very proud of.  They were such a cute couple, and we always got a kick out of how they interacted with one another.  We moved away in 1998, but we always held them close to us in our hearts.  Our lives were definitely enriched by these two wonderful people, and we will forever miss them.  Photo: 6-17-98.


When we lived on Plum Grove Road in Schaumburg for many, many years, my children attended District 54 schools with the Bond
children.  I was acquainted with Harold and Pauline as well.

When my oldest daughter, Norma, passed away in June of 2020 from cancer, I received several heartfelt messages from the family, and it comforted me and I thank them for that thought.

Rest in peace, Harold, and good thoughts go to all the rest of the family from an old neighbor and friend.

I was one of Mr. Bond's “Bond Girls”.    Our connection began learning we both served our country.   He responded to the Marines, and I engaged as a nurse for the Army.   During the many years  assisting your father,  we shared numerous stories.   My  favorite story was  the bowling alley with your mother.    He would reminisce with detail and enthusiasm, I  would enjoy as if I was there!    I took away the beautiful lessons of patience and acceptance; which has impacted  my life. 
Now as I apply the lesson of acceptance and say goodbye I will remember those blue eyes of his, his love for the outdoors as well as Audie Murphy movies on grit. 
I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to meet H.E.B. and his family during this journey.   


It was a honor to have cared for Mr. Bond. Also his wife. I couldn’t get him out often for walks, but this day he was all for it and in wonderful spirits. He would tell me the story all the time of how he and Pauline met, it will never get old and I will never forget. She beat him in bowling lol. As this is a sad time, I’m filled with joy that he has reunited with his wife he missed her so much. Sending my condolences and prayers to his children and grandchildren/great grandchildren. He was extraordinary man and very loved. 

Mr. Bond was one of my all time favorite clients.  I loved to stop by and see him at his Marquette home and have him reminisce about his love story with your mom, Pauline.  
He had the sweetest smile.  He will be sorely missed by many.  His companions over the years  are so thankful they were able to work with your parents.

We were neighbors and friends in Bloomington as well as after we moved to Indianapolis Pauline finally convinced me to walk a mile for each 10 years of age. I think that was seven that year. We tricked Harold into walking part of it.  I haven’t walked that far at one time since.  Both my dogs were welcome at their home   My love to wonderful people.  Your old neighbor Barb
