Of Indianapolis, departed this life on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Jane was born in Muncie, Indiana to the late Carl & Marybel (Coughlin) Wesner. A Hoosier through and through, Jane grew up and attended schools in Hartford City and then earned her degree in nursing from Indiana University in 1963 where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Jane worked most of her life as a Registered Nurse with IU hospitals and Fairbanks Hospital
Jane was a kind and gentle soul who knew how to have fun. She celebrated all of life’s little accomplishments and spread joy and laughter wherever she went. She made friends wherever she went and was known for her intimate and meaningful conversations. She was an accomplished cook and fed her family the “good stuff”: high calorie, high fat meals that occasionally deserved a photograph of full mouths at the table.
Jane enjoyed sunshine on her shoulders, any type of salad that included mayonnaise in the recipe, a game of Bridge with her friends, trips to Lake James and Lake Maxinkuckee and knitting. One of her favorite pastimes was reading the daily obituaries with a Coca-Cola product or glass of wine nearby.
Jane absolutely loved watching and supporting Indiana University Basketball, and all things Bobby Knight and Mike Woodson. She was happiest though loving her family and adoring her grandchildren. She supported them in all of their endeavors and always made herself available.
Jane is survived by her devoted children, Mike (Heidi) Lewis, Katie (Michael Collins) Lewis and Megan (Tim) Sams; grateful grandchildren, Morgan Lewis and Lew & Bo Sams; loving sister, Sharon (Erik) Lahti and former husband, Stan (Phyllis) Lewis and her beloved dog ‘Jack’.
A celebration of Jane’s life will be held at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel from 4 – 7 pm on Thursday, May 25th. A private committal service will be held at Elm Ridge Cemetery Mausoleum in Muncie. Please feel free to wear your IU gear to Jane’s life celebration.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jane’s name are suggested to Humane Society for Hamilton County at 10501 Hague Rd, Fishers, IN 46038
