

John was born May 7, 1939 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Gene and Herman Jentz. He grew up in Cincinnati and graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1963 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. During his college years, he was deployed to Germany for a 1-year assignment. Following graduation from college, John married Patricia Ann Dorrmann and they moved to Indianapolis where John accepted an electrical engineering position with Naval Avionics. John spent his entire work career with Naval Avionics/Raytheon before retiring in 2010 after 46 years of service.
John obtained his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering while attending Purdue University on a part time basis while continuing to work and raise his young family. John was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church, served as Treasurer, Usher, was involved with Sunday School, provided handyman services, and particularly enjoyed frying fish and coordinating the electrical setup at the annual fish fry for 33 years.
John loved spending time with his children and enjoyed taking them on many family trips to well-known tourist destinations throughout the country.
John loved his family, church, friends, and the Cincinnati Reds. He particularly enjoyed bowling on the Beercats team with his Cincinnati friends who had relocated to Indianapolis. He also enjoyed playing tennis, basketball, and baseball with his kids and grandchildren. John coached his son’s AYBS baseball teams, and he was a tribe leader for his son’s Indian Guide troop.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia, four children, Dave Jentz, Brenda Keefe, Michelle Haimbaugh (David Schapker), and Brian Jentz (Ansley Jentz), seven grandchildren, Charlie Haimbaugh, Samantha Haimbaugh, Patrick Haimbaugh, Joe Keefe, Ellen Keefe, Jack Jentz, and Kate Jentz, and his brother William Jentz (Barbara Jentz).
John was preceded in death by his parents, and sons-in-law Robert Haimbaugh and Jack Keefe.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Leppert Mortuary - Nora, address: 740 East 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46240. Visitation is being held from 1:30-3:30pm and service will be held at 3:45pm.
