After graduating from Ball State University with a B.A. in English, she began a 37 year career of public service with the State of Indiana Dept. of Commerce, led by Lt. Governor Robert D. Orr. After eight years there, she joined the executive staff Orr assembled during his eight year tenure as Governor.
It was during these early career years Joy knew and appreciated that she was, indeed, a lucky person to have found the best job ever and the best friends ever who only grew closer throughout her life.
In 1989, she moved to the management staff at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, from which she retired in 2010.
She thoroughly enjoyed retirement and the many experiences shared with her sister Dixie and friends. From national parks and Red Rock country to Broadway Theater, oceans and beaches to Hoosier-centric gems of culture and nature -- Joy loved all of the adventures.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Iva Lee Lamberson and Donald Rothrock.
Joy is survived by her sister Dixie Rothrock Williams, nephew, Mark Lamberson and niece, Beth (Toby) Lamberson Tollefsen and a host of dear friends.
A memorial visitation for Joy will begin at 1:00pm on Thursday, May 1st at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel followed by a memorial service at 2:00pm in the mortuary.
