LaGatha F Adkison

LaGatha Faye Adkison, beloved wife, mother and former Registrar at Taylor University, went peacefully home to be with her Heavenly Father on August 21, 2019. She was born July 30, 1943 in Winters, Texas to the late Jewel and Ivy Traylor. She graduated from Winters High School and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from Texas Christian University. LaGatha retired from Taylor University in 2008 after serving faithfully for 30 years, including the last 10 years as the University’s Registrar. Throughout her life she was a dedicated Christian. During her time at Taylor, she was committed to seeing all students succeed, enjoyed fellowship of Taylor professors and faculty, and believed in the best of people. During the past 17 years LaGatha was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis where she enjoyed her time volunteering with the Northside Food Pantry and the Hospitality Team. LaGatha is greatly loved and will be dearly missed by her beloved husband of 54 years, Hollis Leon Adkison, to whom she married on August 20, 1965 in Robert Carr Chapel at Texas Christian University, two sons - John Mark Adkison (wife Candace, children Georgia Grace and Piper Ivy) of Port Orange, FL and Christopher Adkison (wife Beth, children Kennedy, Andrew, Katherine, Kayla) of San Jose, CA. Additional survivors include siblings (Wanda McConnell, Wendell Traylor, Lynn Traylor), sister-in-law (Linda Adkison Southall, husband Hugh Southall) and nephews/nieces (Brandon Southall, Joel Southall, Robin McConnell, Trey Traylor, Thor Traylor, Kenny Traylor, Eric Traylor, Kelly Traylor, Jonathan Traylor, Joelle Traylor, Ivy Traylor Boudreaux, Olga Traylor, Jack Traylor). The Celebration of LaGatha’s Life will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N. Meridian St, Indianapolis, 46260 at 12:00pm on Monday, August 26, 2019. There will be a Memorial Calling in the church Parlor adjacent to the sanctuary one hour before the service at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Northside Food Pantry, c/o Second Presbyterian Church.
