Lucy Rollings passed away on January 3, 2026 peacefully at her Indianapolis home, where she lived independently at the remarkable age of 106 under the loving care of her family. Born on November 30, 1919, in Adapazar, Ottoman Turkey, Lucy immigrated to America with her parents, Harkina and Misak Hagopian, after surviving the horrors of the Armenian Genocide.
Lucy was the first of her family to graduate with 12 years of formal education. She graduated from Shortridge High School and did post-graduate training in office skills. Working for Indianapolis author/publisher Maxwell Droke, she used her initial earnings to purchase her parents’ first telephone and electric refrigerator. Later she was a longtime bookkeeper for Lumbermen’s Wholesale Supply Company. Most importantly, Lucy was a devoted wife to husband William Barney Rollings (1910-1985) and a loving mother to her 3 children Norma Jean Keilman (1946-1982), Robert Rollings, and Nancy Pratt (Daniel).
In her youth Lucy was an active member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church. She was an accomplished ballroom dancer, frequenting the YWCA and Indiana Roof ballrooms in the late 1930’s, where she won dance prizes with her future husband Barney. Later she was a chorister at Prentice Presbyterian Church and Christ Presbyterian Church. Lucy was an early member of the Alpha Pi Omega women’s sorority, actively contributing her time and artistic talent to numerous charity bazaars. To her family and friends, she was known for her excellent home-baked pies and grape jelly. She was skilled at crocheting, making afghans or baby bonnets for nearly everyone she knew. She was an avid and amiable card player, as well as a committed gardener.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 of her 5 siblings, and 1 of her daughters. Lucy is survived by her children Robert and Nancy, siblings Mary Hagopian and Garo Hagopian, grandchildren Keeley Jean Pratt Davis (Neal), Jonathan Rollings (Skye), Michael Keilman, and William Keilman, and 3 great grandchildren, all of whom she dearly loved.
Lucy’s family wishes to thank all her friends and neighbors, who selflessly spent time and effort on her behalf. And our heartfelt thanks to all her caregivers, especially her primary care physician, whose professionalism, care, and respect meant so much.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00PM on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Leppert Mortuary, located at 740 East 86th Street, Indianapolis. Following visitation, there will be a short memorial service. Her extended family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers are welcome.
In memory of Lucy, her family kindly requests donations are made in her name to Meals on Wheels America.
