Obituary of William D. "Bill" Stuhldreher
William (Bill) D. Stuhldreher passed away on May 12th, 2023, after a brief illness. He was born in 1931 in Indianapolis to the late Walter J. Stuhldreher and Mildred Brosnan Stuhldreher. He graduated from St. Joan of Arc Catholic School, Cathedral High School, then the University of Notre Dame on a Navy scholarship, graduating Cum Laude in 1953 with a BS degree. He served on a destroyer, USS Borie for three years during the end of the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a lieutenant (JG) in 1956. After receiving an MBA from Indiana University, he entered the investment business in Chicago with AG Becker. However, most his investment career was in Indianapolis, where he retired as a VP of Dean Witter Morgan Stanley in 1999, after 42 years. On returning to Indianapolis, he married Eleanor (Suzy) Flynn in 1959. They raised three children, David, Billy and Carolyn. They shared a beautiful life together over their 47 years of marriage until her passing in 2007. He then married Mary Kay Holland. She was a true blessing in his life and we immediately added a wonderful Holland family of stepbrothers and sisters, along with their awesome kids. Bill was very active in his church and community. He served as president of several organizations, including the parish council of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School and Church, The Players, the Service Club, and the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Indianapolis. He was also involved in the Gyro Club, and the Investment Club. He also volunteered at Meals on Wheels. He was a long-standing member at Woodstock Country Club, Ulen Golf Club, and most recently Highland Country Club. Bill loved being with his family and friends. His door was always open. Bill loved his family, his country, and God, being a faithful Catholic as a member of Saint Pius X Catholic Church. To anyone who had the honor of meeting Bill, they would be struck by his kindness and decency. He never knew a stranger, and rarely had a cross word for anyone. His passions included Notre Dame football, IU basketball, and the Colts, but these were secondary to golf. It was well known that during Masters week, there were to be no social engagements that would interrupt his viewing. He was a fine golfer, taking trips to Ireland and Scotland. He recorded two holes in one and shot his age at 88! He used to say “the best money I ever earned was on the golf course.” His siblings were Ann Kessing, his twin brother, Bud (not identical) and Don. His one surviving sister, Marge Tobin, lives in Alaska. He is survived by his children, David (Pinky), Billy (Tammi), Carolyn Hadlock (Bryan); his step children, Bill Holland (Cathy), Kay Holland (Bruce White), Heather Holland (Francisco), Jim Holland (Theresa), and Maureen Holland (Tom Whitaker). He’s also survived by 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Family and friends will gather between 09:30 and 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 17th at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery with military honors. You are invited to visit the website www.leppertmortuary.com to share a personal memory of Bill or arrange a memorial contribution to Meals on Wheels, St. Pius X Catholic Church, or Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
